Rob Baxley began to show the form that lead him to the 2007 tour championship.

 

As the players made the turn. Rob Baxley held a 1 stroke lead over Michael Ihrig and a3 stroke lead of Efrain

Cruz. At the par 5 11th Rob par the hole and Mike and Efrain both bogied extending Rob’s lead. On the par 4 13th Mike and Efrain birdie and Rob made a bogie bringing Mike tied with Rob with Efrian 1 back. On the 14th hole a par 4 Rob made bogie and Mike and Efrian both made pars giving Mike Irhig the lead for the first time on the day. The par 3 17th Rob bogied Efrian birdie and Mike doubled bogied to tie Rob and Efrian with Mike 1 back. On the 18th par 4 Efrian pared Mike and Rob made birdie giving a one stroke victory with Rob and Efrian tied for second.

As the last putt was made at East Bay GC April 5th the 2008 USA Golf tour season starts the championship run in earnest. The 2008 Tampa Masters the first Major of this season’s campaign begins April 19th, 2008

 

The select field will tee it up at 10am for two competitive rounds at Bardmoor GC. Giving the participants an advantage in the points race as all points are doubled for these events. Along with increased prize pools the Majors are tournaments the players look towards.

 

Defending champion Matt Patton and many others have a chance to close the gap on season point’s leader Efrain Cruz. As points for two day events are doubled. Along with increased prize pool winner receives a unique trophy.

 

Only players that have been able to become eligible are able to compete in USA Golf tours Majors. To become eligible for the Tampa Masters. Players must either play in one event during the current season or be a winner in the previous season. Past Major Winners have life time eligibility. The other three Majors of the USA Golf tour require Players must either play in one event during the

On the 17th par 3 Efrian made birdie Bernie made par Matt bogied and Mike doubled to leave Bernie and Efrian tied for the lead and Matt 1 back and Mike 2 back. On the 18th Matt, Efrian and Bernie all Bogied Mike made par Bernie and Efrian tied a 1 over and Matt and Mike finished 1 back. On the first playoff hole Efrian pared and Bernie bogied giving Efrian his 2nd win of the season and first place in points

As April comes around each year player’s games are tested to the limits as weather becomes a big factor.

 

As the players began the rounds at East Bay the wind picked up to 25 mph. Michael Ihrig and Mike Ennis finished the front nine tied a -1 with Bernie Binn third 4 back. Michael Ihrig had 3 straight bogies and Mike Ennis doubled bogied the 11th to give him a one shot lead at 13.

 

Both players pared 13 on the 14th Michael Ihrig made bogie and Mike Ennis made a quad to give Michael Ihrig a 2 stroke lead. Michael Ihrig extended his lead to 4 with a par on 15. Mike Ennis doubled the hole as the players

Bernie Binn battle back from 8 back to play Efrian Cruz in payoff for title.

 

Efrian Cruz jump out to a 7 stroke lead at the turn shooting a 7 under 29. Matt Patton and Mike Ennis finished the nine with even par 36 and Bernie Binn had a 1 over 37. On the par 3 11th hole Matt made birdie Mike had a par and Bernie made double. Efrian struggled on the hole posting a 7 over 10 to give Matt a 1 stroke lead over Mike and Efrian with Bernie 2 back.

 

On the 12th hole Matt made bogie Mike and Efrian both pared and Bernie birdied making it a three way tie going to the 13th. Mike took the lead with par and Efrian and Bernie made double. Efrian was now 2 back. Matt joined Bernie 3 back with a triple bogie 7.

On the par 4 14th Efrian eagled to tie for lead Mike pared and Bernie and Matt both birdied leaving them 2 back.
